Chapter 01

Twenty-five years of beam placement

Bretco has been designing and installing landscape lighting for more than twenty-five years, and most of that experience shows up in what doesn't get lit. Good outdoor lighting is about restraint: a beam aimed low and tight on a tree trunk, a wash of light across brick that catches the texture instead of flattening it, nothing pointed straight into a neighbor's window.

That comes from doing the walk at dusk before anything goes in the ground, standing where the house actually gets seen from, the driveway, the street, the front door, and placing fixtures to work from those angles instead of guessing off a daytime site plan.

Uplight, path light, accent light

Uplights go at the base of a tree, a column or a brick facade and throw light upward to build depth after dark, the same shadow and highlight a house gets naturally at sunset. Path lights sit low along a walkway, spaced to keep footing visible without turning the yard into a runway.

Accent light is the finishing layer, small fixtures aimed at a specific architectural detail, an arch, a sign, a tree canopy, that give the property a focal point instead of a flat wash of brightness.

Chapter 03

What it looks like from the street

The real test of landscape lighting isn't standing in the yard, it's pulling into the driveway after dark and seeing the house the way a neighbor or a delivery driver does, lit evenly enough to read as cared for and bright enough at the walk and the door to double as security lighting.

That's the whole pitch in one sentence: better curb appeal after sunset, and a yard that isn't dark enough to hide anything, from the same set of fixtures.

One source, and the estimate is free

Bretco is a complete source for landscape lighting, design, fixtures and installation from the same crew, so nobody's coordinating between a lighting designer and a separate electrician. Estimates are free, so a homeowner can find out what a full plan would cost before committing to anything.

For a lot of houses the job grows in stages, a few uplights on the front elevation this year, path lighting added the next, all wired back into one system so it reads as a plan instead of a patchwork add-on.
